Preparing, Pricing, and Tagging Items

  • Tagging and peparing your items takes time so please read the following tips and instructions to help you make the best use of your time as well as to help aid you in effectively tagging and displaying your items.

  • The first thing you need to do is check all of your items for cleanliness, tears, broken or missing parts, and for any recalls. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOUR ITEMS BE CLEAN, THIS MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE SUCCESS OF YOUR SALE. WE WILL REFUSE ANY ITEM THAT IS NOT IN GOOD CONDITION SUCH AS BROKEN OR MISSING PARTS, ODORS, PET HAIR, STAINS AND TEARS. Make sure that you have registered online as either a new consignor or returning consignor.

SUPPLIES

-The following are some supplies you may need, depending on the items you bring to the sale.

HANGERS

, REQUIRED FOR ALL CLOTHING except onesies (*hangers will not be returned)
*can be bought cheap at Walmart, or get them free from some stores

ZIPLOC BAGS

(variety of sizes depending on items) for small items/parts

*I find them at the dollar stores cheap, Dollar Tree has large storage bags for 2/$1

SAFETY PINS

(medium and large) to secure items to the hanger and pin tags to clothing
*Dollar store pins are not sturdy, they pop open resulting in lost tags. You can find large bags of large sturdy pins at Walmart cheap!

PACKAGING TAPE

(heavy & clear)
*Use to tape your tags to items other than clothing....tape does not stick to material well!

WHITE PAPER

- preferably card stock NO COLORS!!

ZIPTIES

- GREAT for securing shoes and also for securing pants to hangers!
*place ziptie through left belt loop and secure to hanger and then again on right loop

TAGGING GUNS

are permited and recommended!

*THEY ARE CHEAPER, FASTER AND EASIER TO USE THAN PINNING YOUR TAGS. YOU CAN PURCHASE TAGGING GUNS WITH 1000 BARBS FOR AROUND $15 ON EBAY!

If using tagging guns please tag on the seam under the arm or through the clothing tag to avoid putting holes or tears in the clothing.

CLOTHING

  • -Due to lack of interest we are only accepting a limited amount of Junior clothing. Name brand only! Off brands do not sell well in the junior sizes. Accepted brands are Hollister, Aero, American Eagle, Abercrombie, Nike, Under Armour and Buckle brands. Off brands will be refused during drop off.
  • -There are also limits on infant clothing (under 2T),this is because of the large selection.... a limit of 25 items per size per gender for NB to 24mnths (you can still bundle as many items on a hanger as you wish for one low price as one item)
  • -All clothing must be current styles(5 years or newer), this includes maternity clothing!
  • -* Your clothing must be hung on the hanger. The only exception is onesies. They may be placed in a ziploc bag. NO OTHER ARTICLES OF CLOTHING WILL BE ACCEPTED IN BAGS! Consider grouping 3 or more onesies together for one price....they will sell better.
  • -If you are hanging an outfit that includes pants or skirts (ANY SECOND PIECE), hang the pants with the shirt so that they can be easily seen. This is done by pinning the second piece behind the first piece making sure to catch the hanger with the pin so it does not weigh the top (first piece) down and damage it.

-DO NOT TUCK OR FOLD THE PANTS OR SECOND PIECE UNDER THE SHIRT. ALL ITEMS MUST BE ABLE TO BE EASILY SEEN BY THE SHOPPER.

  • -Single pants, shorts or skirts should be pinned at the waistband to the top part of hanger to prevent sliding. Pin any accessories (hairbows, tights, belts etc.) to the outfit if you are adding any.
  • -Shirts only need pinned to the hanger if they are slipping off.
  • -* We recommend pairing like items. It is wise to create sets when possible as they sell better than seperates. PLEASE DO NOT CROSS SIZES IF YOU ARE COMBINING ITEMS.
  • -* If you are selling several articles of clothing as a "bundle" you have two options: The first is more cost effective (saving on hangers) by pinning the articles of clothing together on one hanger OR hang them on separate hangers (go for as few hangers as you can to save) and zip-tie or gumband the hangers together. Keep in mind that they need to be securely fastened together otherwise they will become separated and lost.

-* YOU MUST PIN YOUR TAGS ON THE CLOTHING, OR USE A TAGGING GUN (TAG THROUGH CLOTHING TAGS or SEAMS TO AVOID HOLES IN THE MATERIAL) - DO NOT TAPE YOUR TAGS ON, THEY WILL FALL OFF RESULTING IN UNSOLD ITEMS FOR YOU.

SHOES

  • -* The best and easiest method of selling your shoes is to put them in a ziploc bag with the tag taped to the outside. Please secure your shoes to one another by using zipties (when possible), they can be found at Walmart cheap (less than $2 for 100). If you cannot secure with zipties then please pin or tie together with string. We have shoes that become separated and are missing tags constantly...this results in loss of sell.
  • -YOUR SHOES MUST BE CLEAN AND IN GREAT SHAPE. PLEASE DO NOT BRING SHOES THAT HAVE DIRT AND MUD ON THEM. YOU WOULD NOT PURCHASE SHOES IN THIS CONDITION SO DON'T EXPECT OUR SHOPPERS TO DO SO.

  • -PLEASE BRING ONLY YOUR BEST LIKE NEW SHOES!!

SMALL ITEMS

  • -Accessories and smaller items sell best as a lot (hair access., socks, rattles, etc.). Package these items as a group of 3 or more in a clear ziploc bag.
  • -* Small items such as belts, bottles, hairbows, and other miscellaneous items fit GREAT in Ziploc bags. We DO recommend using them for the smaller items. Safety pin or tape (do not tape over barcode) the tag to the outside of the bag.

BOOKS AND VIDEOS

  • -* Books (must be clean and in new condition) and DVD's can be sold individually or bundled.
  • -If you are bundling the books or movies, do so by taping or tying them together or putting them in a Ziploc bag. If the buyers cannot see the titles when bundled you MUST tape a list of titles on the front of the first book/video. Tape the tag to the front of the item.

TOYS

  • -* Please make certain that all pieces of a toy item are securely fastened together and that your toy is complete. You may use zip-ties, packaging tape, ribbon, Ziploc bags etc. but please make sure that all items are secure.

-DO NOT BRING TOYS WITH LOOSE PIECES! THE PIECES WILL BECOME SEPARATED AND LOST!!!

  • We have signs asking parents to not allow children to play with the toys, but we cannot control that completely and inevitably children take things apart, scatter pieces, and will unfortunately remove tags if they are "in their way" of play. The more secure you make your toy and tag, the better.
  • -Please have working batteries in toys that require them. You can get batteries at the $ Store for $1. It will help your sells if the shoppers can see the item working!

-* PUZZLES: WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING BOXES OF PUZZLES. THIS IS BECAUSE WE CANNOT COUNT THE PIECES TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE THERE. WE DO NOT WANT OUR CUSTOMERS TAKING A RISK.

However, wooden puzzles are accepted. They can be wrapped in plastic wrap and taped securely so that kids can not rip the plastic off. This will keep the pieces from falling out and being lost.

LARGER ITEMS

  • -Secure your tag directly to the item with clear packaging tape.
  • -* If your larger items have parts or accessories, please put these in a Ziploc bag and securely tape or fasten the bag shut and to the large item. Do not put the tag inside of the bag. The tag should be taped to the outside of the item. I recommend putting an index card or paper inside the bag with your consignor number on it incase the bag becomes separated from the item or the tag comes off. This will ensure the return of your item. The Dollar Tree has XL clear bags (in laundry section) - 2 in box for $1....really cheap alternative for large items!

PRICING

  • -Pricing your items can be tricky! Here are some tips and thoughts to keep in mind:
    • -There are thousands of items consigned and sometimes many duplicates. You MUST be competitive in your pricing. If there are two of the same item, the cheaper item will sell over the other.
    • -Please be reasonable and remember, only charge what you would expect to pay. I know it is hard to sell something for a much lower price than you originally paid or because you are attached to the item for certain reasons but you must remember that the item is used and not as valuable anymore. It is better to sell the item than to take it back home only to donate it at a later time!
    • -The cleanliness and condition of the item also is a huge factor in your success as a consignor! Take a few extra seconds to wipe the item with a sanitizing wipe, sponge or launder if necessary. Mr Clean Magic erasers work awesome on toys, shoes and equipment!
    • -Items must be priced in increments of $1 with a minimum price of $2.00. All items must be worth at least $2.00. If the item is not worth $2 alone, pair or group it with like items.
    • -Outfits or bundled pieces (more than one item on hanger) sell better than separates!
    • -Remember, there are great bargains everyday on clearance racks at the department stores for NEW clothing! Bargain hunters are looking for a GREAT deal so be reasonable.
    • -Let your items go for HALF-PRICE! It is better to get 50% and declutter your home than to get the items back that you don't need or want. A large amount of shoppers will only buy the items marked 50% on Sunday. Believe it or not they will ask to have the item put back at the register if they find that it is not on sale!!

-IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF PRICING DON'T HESITATE TO CALL AND ASK. I AM MORE THAN WILLING TO OFFER ADVICE!

TAGGING

  • -All items must be entered into the system and have the required tag printed from the system attached. Handmade tags will NOT be accepted unless you have approval to do so!
  • -We use an online tagging system that makes tagging your items simple! Here are the steps you need to follow to tag your items:
    • -Start by gathering all of your items.
    • -Check your items for tears, stains, broken or missing pieces.
    • -It is helpful to arrange your clothing by gender and size
    • -You can take your items to the computer or if you have a lot of items, I prefer making a list (name, description, size and price) of all items and take the list to the computer.
    • -Login by using your 4 digit consignor number and password.
    • -Select Work with Consigned Inventory link and begin entering your items.
    • -You will select a category and size, enter brief description of item, enter the price, select if you want the item donated if it does not sell, and select if the item should be discounted on Sunday for the 1/2 price sale.
    • -The system will automatically default to the last selected option such as donate or discount so please be aware and check this area after marking it the first time so that items you don't want discounted or donated are not marked as such.
    • -Clothing MUST be sized with number sizes (example, 6mnths, 12mnths, 2T, 6, etc.) Not S, M, L. If your item is tagged as S, M, L please convert it to the equivelant number size when entering into our system.
    • -You are then ready to print your tags. You can either print your tags all together at the end or a few at a time as you enter them. Tags print 6 to a page. Please DO NOT shrink or enlarge the tags, they will NOT scan. Please do not use a dark print as they do not scan well either. BE SURE to turn OFF your popup blocker. When you generate tags they will pop up in a new window for easy printing.
    • -If you decide you want to change any information on your tag after it has been printed, a NEW tag will have to be printed.
    • -Attach your tags to your items using either tape or pins (see preparing tips). NO HANDPRINTED TAGS will be accepted unless you have approval...NO EXCEPTIONS!!

NOTE: Centsible Moms reserve the right to refuse items that are not properly tagged or presented. We also reserve the right to deny items due to cleanliness and condition.
